  It was about 7:30 last night when car and truck came speeding up the street. There is seldom any traffic. Foster had gone to visit a neighbor across the street. I was at the top of the driveway and he was past the foot of the driveway up the street a little ways. I heard the impact. It was a hit and run. I ran straightaway to the end of the driveway with a flashlight. He must have been thrown some distance up the street. I could see the green reflection of one eye. He was conscious but paralyzed. It was a hit and run. I got him off the street and into the car as fast as possible it took maybe 10 minutes. About 10 minutes later I was about 5 minutes away when I phoned the local vet and asked them to see Foster. At least to put him down if he was as far gone as I figured he was. They refused to see him because they were about to close. They said the next available vet was about an hour away. He died before I got there. If they had taken him in he wouldn’t have suffered as long. I could have asked for him to he PTS. After I got home we sat together in the car for a little while and talked. He spent last night alone in the car. Today I’ll bring him for cremation. The photo below was taken about 5 minutes after his death. He gasped twice as I drove toward the animal hospital they recommended. I stopped check for corneal reflex and he was gone. Then I took the photo.
